About Free Instead Of
Independent directory of English free and open-source alternatives to traditional paid design, photo, video, and PDF tools, tested where noted, with migration notes and pricing from official sites.
Free Instead Of is an independent directory of English free and open-source alternatives to traditional paid design, photo, video, and PDF software. It publishes hands-on notes where a tool was tested, migration tips for leaving subscription suites, and pricing taken from official vendor sites, so you can choose on evidence, not marketing copy. Coverage starts with common swaps such as Canva, Lightroom and After Effects alternatives (Inkscape, Penpot, darktable, RawTherapee, Natron, Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Shotcut) and grows across Design, Photo, Video, PDF and CAD.
